Andrew
Sors
At
its Meeting of 19 May 2008 the Assembly of Collegium Budapest Association elected
Dr. Andrew Sors to be Rector of the Collegium as of 1 November 2008.
Andrew was born in Budapest. After completing his Ph. D in Materials Science
at the University of Sussex in the UK, he worked as a research engineer in
the chemical industry. This was followed by 7 years at the Monitoring and Assessment
Research Centre (MARC) at the University of London, as its Deputy Director.
MARC was an internationally funded research institution addressing global environmental
challenges.
Between 1982 and the start of his mandate as Rector, Andrew Sors worked for the European Commission. His most recent assignments
there were as Head of the Unit for Social Sciences and Humanities Research
(1999-2005) and, during the last three years (2005-2008), he was based in New Delhi as Minister Counsellor and
Head of Science and Technology at the European Commission's Delegation to India,
Bhutan and Nepal.
Throughout his career, Andrew has endeavored to remain connected
with the world of higher education and academic research. His assignments
have included
Visiting Professor at the University of Manchester, Advisory Group Chair for
the University of East Anglia's Research Centre on the Global Environment (CSERGE)
and as joint founding Managing Editor of the international peer review journal "Environmental Monitoring and Assessment".
He has edited a number of books and has published papers in academic journals.
